Quick Healthy Eating Hacks for Busy Moms

Are you super busy and feel like you have no free time to focus on eating healthy? Me too. I get it. Who isn’t?! Seriously.

The good news is that you don’t have to sacrifice healthy eating just because you’re busy. These time-saving tips can help you reach all your health and wellness goals with time to spare.

Time-Saving Tip #1: Batch Cooking

We all know batch cooking saves us time in the kitchen, but are you intimidated by the idea of it? No need for intimidation. It can be as complex or as easy as you wish! For starters, there are two main ways to batch cook. One is what I call “buffet style,” and the other is traditional meal prep batch cooking.

With buffet style, you’re going to cook multiple options to mix and match throughout the week. You can cook several pounds of chicken, steak, or tofu all at once, as well as a few pans of roasted or steamed veggies. Now you have all the building blocks you’re going to need to mix and match to make quick and easy meals throughout the week! For example, one day, you could grab some chicken and throw it over chopped veggies and lettuce for a salad, and another day you could mix the chicken with the steamed veggies in a pan, add some sauce and have a quick stir fry. One day you could eat the steak with roasted veggies, and another you could put it over salad. This method gives you lots of options to grab and go while keeping things interesting. This way, if you are the sort of person that craves variety, you’re not getting bored by eating the same pot of chili or soup every day of the week.

Some people, on the other hand, prefer the regularity of eating the same thing throughout the week. For them, the traditional batch cook is the way to go. This looks like cooking a big pot of chili and eating it every day for lunch and cooking a casserole and eating that every day for dinner. Whichever style you like best, planning ahead and choosing one day to batch cook will save you HOURS in the kitchen every week.

Time-Saving Tip #2: The Instapot

The Instapot is one of my favorite tools for saving time, and one of my favorite foods to make in the Instapot is hard-boiled eggs. I know it sounds trivial, but for me, it’s a game-changer! Instapot eggs make peeling so easy. The shells literally slide right off, which saves tons of time! There are loads of amazing Instapot recipes in cookbooks and on Pinterest, but the beauty of the Instapot is in how quickly it cooks. You can cook chicken in about 8 minutes or do a 4-hour soup in 15 minutes flat. If that’s not time-saving, I don’t know what is. Do you find yourself suddenly needing to buy an Instapot? There are several different models, but if you don't want to read countless reviews and do your own testing, I've already done the hard work for you. Buy my favorite model here!

Time-Saving Tip #3: Smoothie Prep

smoothie ingredients ready and bagged

Smoothies are a quick and easy way to get a lot of nutrients into your diet. This can be made even quicker with a little prep work. Once a week, throw all your smoothie ingredients into a baggie. In the morning, all you have to do is mix these contents with your chosen liquid in a blender, and you’re done! I like to fill my baggies with cacao nibs, maca powder, blueberries, almond butter, and spinach. In the mornings, I add my ingredients to the blender, throw in some coconut milk, add a scoop of protein powder, and I’m done. From start to finish, it takes me just two minutes to make my breakfast this way! Think about all the time saved by not having to open up each jar, bag, or container every single time you want to make a smoothie. Time-Saving Tip #4: Online Shopping

I know you already do this with all things Amazon, friend, so now you just need to start doing it with food! Good quality food, of course! I searched long and hard to find good quality sources of meat and seafood online, and trust me; it’s not easy! There’s a lot of trickery out there.

My favorite source for seafood is Vital Choice because it’s flash-frozen on the ship right after it’s caught, so it’s always fresh. It's also never sprayed with chemical preservatives, and it’s always wild-caught (never farmed). If you’re ready to trade in your grocery store preservative-sprayed seafood for some top-quality seafood, head over here: Vital Choice Seafood

My favorite source for grass-fed beef and free-range chicken and pork is US Wellness Meats. Similar to my preferred seafood, US Wellness Meats products are always frozen when fresh, never sprayed with preservatives, and only sourced from well-cared-for, healthy animals. Try these quality meats for yourself here: US Wellness Meats
